Teaching Requirements: How We Keep Your Kids Safe

Safety is the number one goal at Ricochets Gymnastics, followed very closely by fun and progress! We consider Ricochets staff to be our greatest resource for providing you, our clients, with the best experience possible and fostering a happy and healthy environment. For this reason, we have strict requirements of everyone on our staff.

Each employee is required to submit their PA Child Abuse Clearances, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Fingerprinting Records prior to training. All employees are also required to be CPR and First Aid certified every 2 years.

Upon hire, instructors go through a period of training where they shadow experienced instructors. During this time, they learn how to run structured, safe and fun classes so they can teach on their own. Many of our instructors are also former Ricochets gymnasts so they are very comfortable and confident in the gym.

Once training is complete, instructors are registered with USA Gymnastics (USAG), the national governing body of the sport. At this time, they are required to take three USAG courses before teaching on their own:

SafeSport Course

This course provides important training about the nature of misconduct and gives actionable information to better protect athletes.

U100: Fundamentals of Gymnastics

This course was designed to provide gymnastics professionals with a knowledge base of key principles and proven coaching techniques used in gymnastics today. The topics of coaching principles, basic safety and risk management, communication, supervision and instruction, teaching gymnastics skills, athlete development and preparation, and more are covered in this comprehensive introductory course.

U101: Safety Certification

The primary goal of this course is to increase safety and risk management awareness. Education, preparation, and vigilance are the primary tools gymnastics professionals need to deal with risk and uncertainty in the sport of gymnastics.

Our training doesn’t stop when the job starts. Our instructors are required to keep up with certifications yearly and are always working on learning new teaching techniques from other instructors at Ricochets and coaches from online groups and hands-on clinics.

We strive to provide our instructors with the resources, education and training they need to feel confident in the gym and help our students progress. If you have any further questions, or are interested in becoming an instructor, please contact us!
